Hi again!
Today i am back with a very exciting (and important) post. It is a collaboration with Miss Bella Blog . We are going to be talking about the Dolphin Project , an incredible organisation dedicated to helping dolphins and other marine life from cruelty and bad treatment. They (like me and bella) agree that dolphins should be left alone to live the lives that they were meant to live in their natural habitat.
I am doing a post on dolphins in captivity and Bella is doing her post about the cove hunt. Read her post here . I hope by reading this you learn about the horrible things dolphins face, and i hope you feel like doing something to stop this.
The dolphin (and whale) trade is a huge world-wide industry that relies on our love for these creatures. Places such as SeaWorld and aquariums rely on us wanting to see and interact with dolphins. Unfortunately, most people don't understand the effect on the dolphins when they are in captivity. Dolphins are super smart and get bored and very stressed easily. They are kept in enclosures that some people would say are definitely big enough for the creatures inside, but actually no enclosure is big enough. Dolphins, in their natural habitat, don't stay in one place, they swim all day, basically doing what they were meant to do! When in captivity, this is impossible. It is actually pretty much impossible to keep dolphins healthy and happy in captivity, no matter how well they are treated or how big their tank is. No tank is ever big enough to substitute their natural habitat- the ocean! Dolphins are also treated horribly. They are forced to do tricks just so they can get their food, and are often almost starved so that visitors who pay a lot of money can feed them. They might also have to take customers for "rides" where people pay enormous amounts to "swim" with dolphins- where guests hold onto the dolphin's fins and get dragged along the water.
All of these things, and more, make aquariums and other "dolphin parks" fabulously rich and get heaps of money. They treat dolphins horribly and they don't care, as long as people still come and pay to see them. That's what we can do. By spreading the word about dolphins in captivity, and never going to a dolphin show or to a place that keeps dolphins in captivity, we can help make a difference! Please go to the dolphin project website to find out more information and see what you can do to help.
Thanks for reading, and i really hope that you will help make a difference.
Don't forget to read Bella's Post
